P.I.L.A.R is an independent musician from Lyon, France who runs Barnum Recordings. She's been playing keyboard in various bands, but started writing and composing at the same time. Then she naturally decided to bring her really own project to life. She started to finely work and tune her own sound, defining it into a mix of early 90's Pop Music and Trip-Hop with New Wave and Dark Wave reminiscences.
Her debut EP "Neverland" is an introduction to her universe that clearly demonstrates her love for the epic renewal 80's and 90's have been bringing to the musical sphere, while it also clearly
shows her ability to dive into forward-thinking treatments and renewal of this legacy.
During this 5 tracks journey into her really own creative landscape, P.I.L.A.R is offering a surprisingly approachable release in which purely electronic beats meet analog synths drones and fuzzy guitar leads, 808 kicks fight with pop vocals and never-ending, saturated tape echo overdubs. The collaboration between P.I.L.A.R and french producer Pierre Serafini (also known as Opti) – Airflex Labs' manager imprint and electronic music musician – even accentuated this cross-over approach as mix and mastering at his studio really revealed P.I.L.A.R's sound to turn into something highly personal and unexpected, born from the meeting of their both musical backgrounds, skills and influences.
P.I.L.A.R production was born from a variety of approaches and her debut EP show a confident artist who feels comfortable in her own skin, freed from genres and general music trends. A really nice first step into a scene that tends to labour under a lot of delusions and rip-offs instead of showing real understanding and anticipation.
